Urban history and culture in Goleniów

In the wider Gollnow destination, Goleniów is home to the Brama Wolińska, also known as Brama Chrobrego: a defensive gate built in the Gothic style in the 14th century. At 26 metres high and six storeys tall, the structure can also be appreciated for its dimensions. The Centrum Informacji Turystycznej is located in the passageway. Its areas of focus include tourist infrastructure, agritourism and tourism, places of interest in the town and region, cycling routes, and cultural and sporting events.

Significant sections of Goleniów’s medieval town walls have survived. The most interesting and best-preserved section lies in the southwest of the Old Town, by the Ina. The Goleniowska Aleja Legend adds a different cultural dimension to the town’s history: renovated in 2013, the riverside promenade along the Ina features granite sculptures depicting local legends. Defensive architecture, surviving sections of the walls and artistic interpretations of local stories thus offer different ways to explore the town’s history.

Twierdza Design is another example of historical building fabric finding a new purpose: a historic industrial site in Goleniów. It originated as the railway water tower, which was renovated between 2019 and 2020, and is now used by social organisations. This connects the building’s industrial history with its present-day use, without equating it with the medieval structures.

Protected nature with different areas of focus

The Wilcze Uroczysko nature reserve covers just under 63 hectares and extends across the municipalities of Goleniów and Stepnica. It protects a wetland and valuable riparian forests; the area also serves as a refuge for white-tailed eagles. The protection therefore encompasses wetland and woodland habitats as well as a specific animal species.

The focus of the Uroczysko Święta nature reserve, established in 1973, is different: this 9.5-hectare floristic reserve is located in the Goleniów Forest District and protects part of a deciduous woodland. The size figures clearly distinguish the two protected areas, as do the features they are designated to protect. Visitors interested in nature in the destination can therefore choose between the wetland and riparian forest area, which provides a refuge for white-tailed eagles, and the smaller floristic reserve.

Footprints, walking trails and cycling routes

The Miejski Szlak Turystyczny leads to architectural monuments and places of interest in Goleniów. It is marked with so-called blue footprints. The green PTTK trail Szlak Borów Goleniowskich offers a different way to find your bearings: it is 17.1 kilometres long, well marked and particularly recommended for hikers and cyclists. Its route runs between Krzewno, Łęsko, Pucko and Kliniska Wielkie. Kliniska Wielkie is the named location on this route; it should not be confused with Kliniska Małe.

The length and route also help distinguish the cycling options. One green cycling route is 45 kilometres long and passes through Goleniów, Żdzary, Łaniego, Krępsko, Miękowo, Żółwią Błoć, Niewiadowo, Glewice, Stacja PKP Mosty, Burowo and Mosty. Another, a scenic cycling route, is 13 kilometres long and leads through Borzysławiec, Lubczyna, Czarna Łąka, Pucice and Rurzyca. The routes differ in both course and stated length; length alone does not indicate their condition or difficulty.

Water-based activities in Lubczyna

In Lubczyna, Przystań Jachtowa offers water-based tourism. Its three harbour basins can accommodate around 35 inland yachts and 15 seagoing yachts. This makes water-based activities a distinct focus alongside the urban and nature themes. When looking for a holiday apartment in Kliniska Małe, it may help to consider whether you would prefer to focus your stay on urban history, a nature reserve, a particular walking or cycling route, or water-based tourism.
