Styków combines a history of sacred architecture with a location between remnants of the Sandomierz Forest. Two chapels showcase different architectural forms; the modern church adds a more recent chapter to the local architectural history. Styków is also about three kilometres from the centre of Głogów Małopolski. This gives you concrete points to consider when choosing a holiday destination: you can weigh up whether the historic religious buildings or the surrounding landscape hold greater appeal for your stay.

Chapels with a history of their own

The Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary was built by local resident Maciej Selwa. It served as a chapel for Mass until 1990. Since its founding, May devotions and October devotions have been held there. The altar features an image of Our Lady of the Rosary between Saint Rose and Saint Dominic. Its former function as a chapel for Mass and the devotions give the building’s history a religious context, while the altar image describes a specific detail of its furnishings.

The chapel is built of brick and plastered. Pilasters divide its walls, with a broad eaves cornice running above them; a square bell turret sits on the roof. The entrance portal is rectangular. Pilasters are flat architectural features attached to a wall that echo the form of a column. An eaves cornice forms a horizontal line where the wall meets the roof. The chapel thus brings together vertical wall features, a pronounced horizontal finish and a roof structure. These terms help you appreciate its architecture not only as a whole, but also through its individual components.

An old chapel stands opposite the church in Styków and dates from the mid-19th century. It is rectangular, built of brick and plastered. There are two semicircular windows in the side walls. The high roof, clad in boards, supports a bell turret topped with an iron cross. Compared with the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary, different features stand out here: the walls of the first chapel are defined by pilasters and an eaves cornice, while the semicircular windows and high roof draw attention in this one. Together, the two buildings offer different examples of sacred architecture in Styków.

The church and landscape as points of reference

The modern church in Styków stands on flat ground. Construction began in 1985 and was completed in 1988; Bishop Ignacy Tokarczuk blessed it that same year. The local history therefore includes not only the chapels, but also a religious building with a clearly defined construction period in the 1980s. Together, the different architectural forms and periods represent more than a single, uniform style: they make Styków’s sacred architecture tangible through a range of buildings and historical periods.

The landscape and location can also influence your choice of destination. Styków lies between remnants of the Sandomierz Forest and about three kilometres from the centre of Głogów Małopolski. The distance is an additional point of reference, while the remnants of the forest describe the area’s connection to the landscape. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can weigh these aspects according to what matters most to you during your stay: the architectural history of the chapels and church, or the location between remnants of the forest. This makes it easier to factor Styków into your holiday plans based on specific features of the area.
