Market Square, Building History and Tradition

A brick town hall with a distinctive tower stands on the Market Square. The Lubomirski family had it built around the middle of the 18th century. The square is also home to a historic statue of the Virgin Mary and a statue of Saint Florian, both from the 18th century. Here, you can encounter several features from the same period in one place: the town hall as a building and the two statues as distinct focal points of the square.

The Market Square also has a multimedia fountain. It is particularly striking after dark, and you can watch it from the nearby benches. This gives the square a different character from the one created by the town hall and historic statues alone. The Church of the Holy Trinity (Kościół Trójcy Przenajświętszej) is also connected with the town’s history: the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Głogów (Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Głogowskiej) was established there on 26 February 2012. This date adds a more recent connection to Głogów Małopolski’s religious history alongside the older landmarks on the Market Square.

Another historical speciality is “głogowskie złoto” (Głogów gold). In the 18th century, the jewellery known by this name was widely renowned. It was made from metal alloys that imitated real gold. So here, the focus is neither a building nor a statue, but jewellery made with a gold-like material. Alongside the town hall and statues, this tradition offers another perspective on the town’s history.

Hiking Trails, Cycling Routes and Nature

Part of the “Bór” nature reserve lies within the boundaries of Głogów Małopolski. This connection with nature adds another perspective to the town’s cultural attractions. The yellow “Dookoła Rzeszowa” hiking trail and a blue hiking trail also run through the town. Cycling routes pass through Głogów Małopolski as well.
