Historic Sites in Nisko

The Niżańskie Centrum Historii i Tradycji is housed in a listed former palace outbuilding. It was built in the final quarter of the 19th century as part of the palace complex commissioned by the Rességuier couple. The former building of the Towarzystwo Gimnastyczne „Sokół“ also connects architectural history with contemporary culture: it was built in 1904, is listed as a historic monument, and now serves as the home of the Niżańskie Centrum Kultury. Since October 3, 1998, the parish church in Nisko has held the status of a sanctuary dedicated to Saint Joseph, the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Cultural institutions, architectural heritage and religious significance thus emerge as distinct themes.

The Niżański Festival of Hunting Culture is held every year in Nisko’s town park. The program includes, among other things, nature exhibitions, presentations on various aspects of hunting, and demonstrations featuring falconry, horses and hunting dogs. Churches, Manor House and Parkland

Architectural landmarks in Zarzecze include the wooden parish Church of Our Lady of the Snows, dating from 1720, and a manor house and park complex from the second half of the 19th century. The parish Church of Saint Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, stands in Racławice. Its parish is considered the oldest in the area and was founded around 1270. Waldekówka Park offers a different attraction: an oxbow lake of the San with stands of white water lilies and yellow pond lilies. Part of the grounds is covered by swampy black alder forest. Church history and wetlands therefore provide different focal points for exploring Racławice.

Landscape and the Wider Region

Powiat Niżański, the wider geographical area, lies in the Sandomierz Basin on the edge of the Sandomierz Forest and extends across both banks of the San in the northern part of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. This places the river in two contexts: as part of the powiat’s geographical setting and as an oxbow lake in Waldekówka Park.

In the wider region, the Centrum Wikliniarstwa in Rudnik nad Sanem offers a guided tour along the route of monumental willow sculptures. In Krzeszów, the open-air museum “Krzeszowska Chata” preserves historical memorabilia, exhibits and old photographs from Krzeszów and the surrounding area. Historical exhibits are explained free of charge to organised groups and individual visitors.
