Discover history in specific places

At the regional museum in Dębica, a permanent exhibition focuses on the history of the garrison. It particularly highlights the Austro-Hungarian period and the Battle of Gorlice. Anyone interested in the town’s history will find a thematic introduction here, distinct from the buildings and memorial sites found throughout the city.

Historic buildings include the Raczyński family burial chapel in the Old Cemetery. Built in 1880, it is a neo-Gothic structure made of red brick. The Gothic parish church of St. Jadwiga also reflects several phases in its history: it was built in the 16th century and extended in 1962. The two sites offer contrasting impressions—the 19th-century neo-Gothic chapel and the older church with its later extension.

The former synagogue in Dębica tells another story of change in the city’s history. The building was constructed in the 18th century, burned down in 1939, and was converted into a department store after the war.

Compare marked trails by distance and walking time

Several routes with different descriptions are available for an active day. The blue-marked Dębica–Góra Śmierci lowland trail is 16 kilometers long, starts at Dębica railway station, and is also suitable for cycling. The green-marked Dębica–Jaworze Dolne mountain trail also starts at the railway station. It is 15 kilometers long, with an approximate walking time of four and a half hours. Mountain bikes are also permitted.

The distance and walking-time details make for a practical comparison: the mountain trail is slightly shorter than the lowland trail, but an approximate walking time of four and a half hours is given for it. No walking time is specified for the lowland trail. If you are looking for a circular route with a shorter stated walking time, consider the marked “Zielona” forest and cross-country running loop. It runs from Ulica 23 Sierpnia via Las Wolica (Łysa Góra) and back to the starting point. The loop is 6.5 kilometers long, with an approximate walking time of two hours.

The route descriptions differ not only in their marking colors: they include a lowland trail, a mountain trail, and a loop through the forest. The walking times given are approximate. As trail conditions may change, it is advisable to check the condition of your chosen route before setting out.

Walks, views, and seasonal ice skating

The “Las Wolica” walking trail is in the southern part of Dębica and offers views of the city. The marked “Zielona” forest and cross-country running loop also passes through Las Wolica (Łysa Góra).

Miejski Ośrodek Kultury organizes cultural events and offers educational programs and workshops in dance, visual arts, theater, and traditional culture. The organization includes Dom Kultury Mors, Dom Kultury and Kino “Śnieżka,” and Galeria Sztuki MOK. Over four decades, this gallery has organized more than 600 exhibitions.

The parks in the wider Dębica destination also offer a range of features. Park Jordanowski has play equipment, a street workout area, an outdoor gym, and a bicycle town where children can learn about road safety. Park Skarbek-Borowskiego has seven themed areas, including a recreational area and an educational area. As parks can change during renovations, it is a good idea to check their current status before visiting.

For a sense of the landscape in the wider Dębica destination: the south is shaped by partly forested hill ranges, cut through by stream valleys, ravines, and gullies. For travel by car, Dębica is on the A4 motorway, which forms part of the E40. The Dębica–Wschód and Dębica–Zachód interchanges provide access to the motorway. National Road 94 runs through the town and is a toll-free alternative to the A4. Check current traffic conditions separately.

Another excursion idea in the wider Dębica destination is the partisan trail of the Home Army’s II Grouping, which commemorates battle sites of soldiers from the 5th Mounted Rifle Regiment during Operation “Burza.” There is a red-marked version for walkers and a green-marked version for cyclists. Check the condition and markings of your chosen route in advance.
