Pszczyna brings together a former princely castle, an Old Town with a medieval layout, press history and an extensive park landscape. Wildlife watching is also one of the activities visitors can enjoy here. When choosing a holiday apartment, it helps to first decide whether you want to focus on cultural history, town life or nature.

Castle Museum and Old Town

The Castle Museum in Pszczyna is housed in a former princely castle. Around 80 percent of the original furnishings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries have been preserved. Both the history of the building and its historic furnishings are therefore among the town’s cultural highlights.

The Old Town has preserved its traditional medieval layout. Its centre is a spacious market square. Piastowska Street is one of several streets leading to the square, and also the town’s main shopping street. This gives you two distinct points of reference: the central square and a street leading to the market that also serves as the main shopping street. You can consider the town’s history and its present-day shopping scene as separate interests alongside the Castle Museum.

Press history linked to a route

The Muzeum Prasy Śląskiej presents the history of the press in Silesia from its beginnings to 1939. The museum is located on the signposted Szlak Zabytków Techniki. This route includes more than thirty sites and is the only one of its kind in Poland to be part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage network. If you are interested in press history, this offers a clearly distinct cultural highlight alongside the castle and Old Town.

The two museum themes also cover different periods: the Castle Museum has preserved a large part of its original furnishings from around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, while the press museum’s exhibition traces the history of the Silesian press up to 1939. Historic furnishings and media history thus offer two specific themes to weigh up when planning your stay.

Parkland and wildlife watching

Park Zamkowy stretches across 48 hectares along the Pszczynka River. The riverside landscape adds a natural setting to the cultural attractions. This is a different focus from the Old Town, Castle Museum or press history exhibition when comparing your interests.

At Pokazowa Zagroda Żubrów, visitors can see European bison, mouflons, red deer, fallow deer, roe deer and several bird species. The variety of animals is broad: as well as European bison, the wildlife-watching opportunities mentioned include several other mammals and birds. Together with the park, they offer a distinct reason to consider nature and wildlife when choosing a destination.

Getting there and choosing a holiday apartment

Railway lines from Katowice to Bielsko-Biała, Wisła and Żywiec pass through Pszczyna. If you plan to travel by train, check the current timetable before your journey. When searching for a holiday apartment, your preferred focus can serve as the first filter: will your trip centre mainly on the castle and Old Town, is press history your priority, or would you like to include the park and wildlife watching?
