Culture and History

The parish of St Catherine’s Church has existed since the 13th century; the church is mentioned in 1347 and 1490. The present-day brick-built St Catherine’s Church was erected in 1607–1608 on the site of an earlier wooden church. Its form is Gothic-Renaissance, although later alterations changed its stylistic features. The building consists of limestone rubble and was supplemented with bricks. Next to St Catherine’s Church, the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk stands in Woźniki’s market square; Woźniki also has a market square.

The cemetery church of St Valentine is the oldest sacred building in the municipality of Woźniki and part of the Silesian Wooden Architecture Trail. The Woźniki Battle Monument commemorates the fighting of 2 September 1939. Patriotic commemorative ceremonies are held there every year.

The medieval, cone-shaped Grodzisko is identified with the original settlement from which Woźniki emerged. Grodzisko is listed as an archaeological site in the register of historic monuments; the metal objects found there are kept at the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom. Woźniki’s urban layout is also listed as a protected historic monument in the register of historic monuments.

Nature

East of the town centre, Coglowa Góra rises to 359 m above sea level. Woźniki is located near the extensive Lasy Lublinieckie forests. Two Bridges in Woźniki is associated with a distinctive microclimate shaped by beavers. Woźniki is also mentioned in connection with the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland.
