Jasna Góra is a sanctuary with a Pauline monastery on Jasna Góra hill in Częstochowa and Poland’s most important Catholic pilgrimage centre. It is home to the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa, which is venerated as miraculous.

Culture
A special work of art within this religious setting is Golgota Jasnogórska, a cycle of 18 paintings by the Częstochowa artist Jerzy Duda-Gracz. He created it in 2000 for the millennium anniversary of the sanctuary; the works are located on the upper floor of the Chapel of the Virgin Mary. Fourteen paintings depict Stations of the Cross, while the others address the Resurrection of Jesus, the encounter with the unbelieving Thomas, the sending out of the Apostles and the Ascension.
The Muzeum 600-lecia Jasnej Góry opened in 1982 and presents the cultural and artistic activities of the Paulines who care for this site. The Arsenał houses the exhibition “Arsenal of European Art. Painting – Sculpture – Votive Offerings”, featuring known and unknown artistic monuments from the Jasna Góra monastery dating from the 15th to the 20th century. The Muzeum Częstochowskie presents permanent and temporary exhibitions in eight locations.
The Second Museum of Zdzisław Beksiński preserves paintings and drawings by Zdzisław Beksiński, an exceptional and internationally renowned artist of modern Polish art. The Archaeological Reserve in Częstochowa’s Raków district presents 85 excavated burial sites of the Lusatian culture, dating from 750 to 550 BC, in its permanent exhibition “From the Darkness of History”. They include ceramic vessels, tools, jewellery and weapons that have been preserved at the site of discovery. The reserve is considered unique worldwide.
The Muzeum Górnictwa Rud Żelaza presents a permanent underground exhibition on the history of iron ore mining and historical mining methods in the Częstochowa region.
