Lake Godziszewskie and the Styna both shape Godziszewo: the vast lake lies within the villages of Godziszewo, Demlin and Obozin, and Godziszewo is situated by both the lake and the river. The landscape is also notably varied. Numerous hills and hollows form the undulating surroundings, shaped by the Baltic glaciation. At 105.7 m above sea level, Święta Góra is the highest point in Godziszewo. Lake, river and hiking trail
Lake Godziszewskie offers opportunities to relax and enjoy recreational activities by the water. The Styna adds a different perspective: it is important for fishing from the lake to its mouth. There are three fishing districts along it, and the entire Styna is a fishing water. The lake is therefore associated with recreation by the water, while the Styna is specifically notable for its importance to fishing. The northern section of the Jezior-Kociewskich Trail is a specific route through the landscape. It runs between Skarszewy and Starogard Gdański, is marked in red and is 38.2 km long. At kilometre 11.5, the route passes Lake Godziszewskie; at kilometre 11.6, it passes the Styna. Both the trail markings and the length of the section are useful reference points for planning your outing; the walking time cannot be determined from the distance alone.
Church and historical traces
The present-day Church of St. John of Nepomuk was built in 1748 as a single-nave Baroque building on a small hill. Inside, it features an original Rococo design, considered one of the most valuable in Kociewie. The vestibule also contains a Renaissance tomb for Jan Wiesiołowski and his wife, Justyna z Branickich. The history of settlement here goes back a long way, too. Godziszewo is one of Pomerania’s oldest settlements. Finds of hand-formed pottery suggest that a settlement may already have existed here in the 8th century, during the early Middle Ages. Former mill-related structures have also been preserved along the Styna. Another historic site is the Roman Catholic cemetery dating from the early 20th century, which is listed in the heritage inventory. These traces date from different periods: they range from possible early medieval settlement to preserved former mill buildings and the cemetery from the early 20th century.
Choosing Godziszewo as a holiday destination
Two main roads run through Godziszewo in different directions. The Starogard Gdański–Gdańsk route runs from south to north, while the Skarszewy–Tczew route runs from west to east. Together with the location by the lake and the Styna and the hilly landscape, these road routes provide a sense of the area’s layout.
