Witkowo was first mentioned in a document in 1282. In it, the Pomeranian prince Mściwoj II, son of Świętopełk II Wielki, confirmed his father's foundation in favor of St. Stanislaus Church in Gardna.

There are two public transport stops in Witkowo on road 1123G: WITKOWO 05 at kilometre 18+870 and WITKOWO 28 at kilometre 18+940.
Culture
The Evangelical cemetery in Witkowo is no longer in use and dates from the mid-19th century. No gravestones have survived; around 30 percent of the tree population remains. The cemetery is listed in the heritage conservation register.
Until 1830, Witkowo, Wierzchocino and Siecie shared a school. It stood halfway between the three villages on the site of the former royal office known as Amt Ramow.
The school in Witkowo burned down in a fire in 1881. A new school building was erected around 200 metres northwest of the site of the former school.
After the Second World War, the settlement of Vietkow was renamed Witkowo.
Landscape
Around 1784, after the arrival of settlers, Witkowo had 15 farmsteads. In 1939, there were 46 agricultural holdings in Witkowo: 17 of 0.5 to 5 ha, 10 of 5 to 10 ha, 12 of 10 to 20 ha and 7 of 20 to 100 ha.
Plaża Rowy beach is located near Witkowo. Słowiński Park Narodowy is also in the vicinity. Rowokół Hill is located in the immediate vicinity of Witkowo.
In the wider regional area around Witkowo are Plaża Dębina beach and Plaża Łeba beach.
Cycling
For the connection between Wierzchocino and Główczyce, which has not yet been completed, a detour via Witkowo to DW 213 is planned along route R-10, also known as EuroVelo 10.
