Harbour, bay and townscape
Jastarnia brings together life at the harbour and a clearly evident fishing tradition. The harbour serves fishing, sailing, passenger transport and tourism; on Puck Bay, visitors can also take trips in traditional fishing boats offered by local fishermen. The pier at the harbour offers a quieter setting: open throughout the season, it is a place to stroll and relax, with a viewpoint overlooking Puck Bay. This gives you a choice of different experiences when planning your holiday—a trip on the water, a view across the bay or a walk by the harbour.
The traditional fishermen’s buildings that have been preserved also shape Jastarnia’s character. A walk through the narrow streets between former fishermen’s cottages is considered a special visitor experience. Those interested in the town’s history can focus on the surviving buildings and the “Chata Rybacka” museum. The lighthouse adds a distinctive architectural feature to the town: built in 1938, its tower is 13.3 metres high and topped with a conical roof. It is important to note when planning your visit that the lighthouse is not open to visitors.

The “Chata Rybacka” museum is an authentic, rectangular fishermen’s cottage dating from 1881. A visit brings together a specific historic building and the fishing tradition that is also visible in the townscape. Another striking stop for culturally minded travellers is the neo-Baroque fishermen’s church, Kościół pw. Nawiedzenia Najświętszej Maryi Panny. Built in the 1930s, it is regarded as an outstanding architectural monument of the town. Its interior is decorated in shades of blue and celadon. The magnificent boat-shaped pulpit is particularly unusual, appearing to be borne by turbulent sea waves. Every summer, organ concerts featuring well-known organists from Poland and abroad are held there.
Fortifications and maritime history
Those interested in the history of fortifications, as well as fishing life and church art, will find a dedicated area at the Skansen Fortyfikacji open-air fortifications museum. It has been located on the grounds of the Ośrodek Oporu Jastarnia since 2005. The site includes four main bunkers: “Sokół”, “Sabała”, “Saragossa” and “Sęp”, as well as light fortifications. The interior of the “Sabała” museum bunker can be visited in spring and summer. This makes it possible to focus your stay on the history of the fortifications; the stated seasonal period applies to visits inside this bunker.
Another surviving feature is associated with the “Jastarnia” anti-aircraft battery: its most striking surviving element is a reinforced-concrete fire-control post on top of the dune at the entrance to beach number 54. The harbour, in turn, tells another part of the town’s story. Built between 1926 and 1931, it was the first facility in Poland where yacht captains were trained. Today, with its roles in fishing, sailing, passenger transport and tourism, it is also an important point of reference for a range of maritime themes.
