A pilgrimage site with a special devotion to the Virgin Mary
Sianowo is shaped above all by its devotion to the Virgin Mary and its pilgrimage tradition. The church houses a statue of the Madonna dating from the 15th century, which was crowned Queen of Kashubia in 1966. To this day, Kashubian residents venerate the statue, as do numerous pilgrims from Poland and abroad. If you are interested in religious culture and local traditions, you have a specific reason to consider Sianowo as a travel destination: the Madonna is at the heart of a devotion connected both to the history of the place and to its present.

The pilgrimage tradition dates back to 1480. At that time, a document granted all the faithful a special indulgence for a pilgrimage to Sianowo to see the “Łaskawa Figura” (“Gracious Statue”). This early reference to the pilgrimage adds a specific date and religious occasion to the Madonna’s history. Together with the devotion that continues to this day, it gives Sianowo a cultural focus that sets it apart from destinations chosen primarily for their scenery or cycling routes.
Services and religious occasions
At the Sanctuary of Our Lady, Queen of Kashubia, a novena to the Madonna of Sianowo takes place on Wednesdays during Holy Mass. Every Thursday, after Mass, there is adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The two events differ in form and purpose. If you would like to include religious events in your travel plans, Wednesday and Thursday offer specific options to consider. On July 20, 2025, the annual Great Indulgence was also celebrated at the sanctuary, associated with the veneration of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Cycling on two named routes
The green cycling route runs from Kartuzy via Łapalice, Lake Białe and Pomieczyńska Huta to Sianowo. It is 26.5 km long, with an estimated cycling time of about 2 hours and 40 minutes. The named places make the route specific and give you reference points if you want to include this connection in your travel plans. Distance and estimated cycling time describe different aspects of the route: one indicates its length, while the other gives an approximate duration.
Another named cycling route section runs between Sianowo and Garcz. It is 4.8 km long and lies in Kashubian Landscape Park. Its main attractions include the Sanctuary church, built in 1816, and Lake Sianowskie. The route description therefore includes both a religious site and a lake. The 4.8 km refers to the Sianowo–Garcz section; the 26.5 km refers to the route from Kartuzy via the places mentioned to Sianowo.
