Neoclassical Architectural History and Churches
The former synagogue in Siemiatycze was built in 1797 in the neoclassical style, to a design by Szymon Bogumił Zug. Today, it houses the Siemiatycki Ośrodek Kultury and the SOK Gallery. The churches also offer insight into the town’s architectural history. The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a listed historic building. The Orthodox Church of Saints Peter and Paul is a 19th-century neoclassical place of worship, standing on a plinth with stone foundations. Its interior walls bear frescoes drawing on Byzantine painting; the furnishings also include an icon of St Nicholas the Wonderworker.
A Walking Route with Historical Significance
The Szlak Powstania Styczniowego walking route commemorates, through its name, the great battle of the January Uprising of 6–7 February 1863. The route starts and ends at the former synagogue on Zaszkolna Street in Siemiatycze.
