At the end of the 18th century, Jan Węgierski, a royal chamberlain and owner of Łuka, began building his new residence in Tarnopol. The historical story thus begins with a specific project and a named individual. The place references are distinct: Łuka is associated with Węgierski’s role as an owner, while construction of the residence began in Tarnopol. His position as a royal chamberlain adds context about him. The early phase can therefore be understood as the story of a building project, before Tarnopol’s later role as a residence takes centre stage.

In 1833, Tarnopol took over the leading role as a residence after the manor house in Stary Dwór burned down and definitively lost its significance. The fire affected the manor house in Stary Dwór; Tarnopol took over the role. The phrase “leading role as a residence” draws attention to the town’s place in historical developments, rather than to a single building project alone. The two stages are therefore distinct: construction began in Tarnopol at the end of the 18th century, followed in 1833 by a change of role after the fire and loss of significance in Stary Dwór.

This sequence brings two aspects together: Węgierski’s building project and Tarnopol’s leading role. The first tells the story of a person and his project; the second, of the town’s development in relation to Stary Dwór.
