The Museum and Cultural Centre of the Belarusian Minority in Hajnówka features three permanent exhibitions on folk culture and rural life in Podlasie. They are called “Dzień za dniem”, “Zanim chleb położono na stole” and “Życia zgodny chód”. Landscape and Walking Routes in the Wider Hajnowski Destination

In the wider Hajnowski destination, the Białowieża Forest is an important part of the landscape: it is the largest forest complex in Hajnowski County and is considered the best-preserved lowland forest in Europe’s deciduous and mixed forest zone. The Białowieża National Park lies within this forest, in Hajnowski County. It covers 10.5 thousand hectares and was established in 1921. The forest complex and the national park are therefore two distinct but interconnected geographical areas.

The “Kraina Puszczy i Żubra” Nordic Walking Park in the wider Hajnowski destination has seven marked routes, with maps, ranging from 3 to 21 kilometres. Conditions also vary from one trail to another in Białowieża National Park. The “Do Dębu Jagiełły” route through the strictly protected area may only be visited under the guidance of a tourist guide licensed by the park director. Individual visitors may walk the “Carska Tropina”, “Wilczy Szlak”, “Wokół Uroczyska Głuszec” and “Tropem Żubra” trails, as well as the “Przez trzy zbiorowiska” nature trail, without a guide. As operating rules may change, it is advisable to check the latest requirements before your trip.

Regional Crafts and Cultural Experiences

The wider Hajnowski destination also includes the Museum of Blacksmithing and Locksmithing. It grew out of a family forge established in 1927 and has 586 exhibits. Demonstrations show the blacksmithing process, and visitors can try striking red-hot iron with a hammer themselves. Demonstrations are available by prior arrangement only. Since 2002, the International Festival Hajnowskie Dni Muzyki Cerkiewnej has been held as a week-long competition at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Hajnówka.
