Rynek and Architectural History
The cobbled Rynek in Pułtusk is 400 metres long and is considered the longest cobbled market square in Europe. Its remarkable length gives the town centre a clear focus for a first stroll. At one end of the square stands Dom Polonii, the former castle of the Bishops of Płock. Here, a spacious square and a building with a historic function sit side by side.
Another highlight is the Collegiate Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is considered a monument of particular importance to Poland’s cultural heritage. The basilica has fifteen Baroque side altars. Those interested in architectural and cultural history will find two distinct points of interest: the former castle on the Rynek and the church’s sacred furnishings.
Museum and Seasonal Exhibition
The Pułtusk Regional Museum includes the Town Hall Tower, the Town Hall cellars dating from the 18th century and the building at Rynek 36 as visitor locations. These sites give the museum several named stops. One is the former Jesuit storage cellars on Wzgórze Abrahama, where an exhibition is open from May to September on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm; tickets are available at the museum at Rynek 43. As this visit is organised seasonally, it is best to check the times before you arrive.
Walking and Cycling Routes to Different Destinations
Walkers can choose between two routes based on their described itineraries. The Szlak Wielkiej Przygody runs from Pułtusk via Popławy, the Wielgolas Nature Reserve, Obryte and Sadykierz to Komorowo; the route also passes through the Pułtusk Forest District. The Szlak Borów Nadnarwiańskich starts on Bartodziejska Street, continues to the edge of the forest, passes the Popławy Nature Reserve and ends at the bus stop in Zatory. The destinations of Komorowo and Zatory point in two different directions for planning a day out. Check the condition of the trails locally before setting off.
A different starting point is described for a cycling trip: it begins at the fountain in the market square and follows Słowackiego Street towards the footbridge over the Narew. You can choose an outing to suit your preferred activity: one of the walking routes described above, or the cycling route starting from the Rynek. Check local conditions for this route as well.
Seasonal Activities on the Narew
Hotel Zamek Pułtusk, Dom Polonii, lists gondola and catamaran trips on the Narew as a seasonal offering from May to October. It also lists pedal boats, kayaks, boats and gondolas for hire during this period, as well as sightseeing and leisure trips.
