The Ośrodek Etnograficzny in Lelis was founded in 1997 and presents the everyday life of the people of the Puszcza Kurpiowska. Two living rooms are furnished in the style of a traditional Kurpie house. This gives the subject of everyday life a domestic scale: the rooms turn a broad cultural idea into a concrete perspective on homes and ways of life. The founding year and the furnishings offer two points of view—the history of the centre and the regional way of life it portrays.

The selection of objects broadens this perspective too. The exhibition includes pottery, looms and willow-weaving work, as well as agricultural and hunting tools. The craft examples point to materials and techniques; the tools add agriculture and hunting to the picture. In this way, the portrayal of everyday life encompasses living spaces as well as craft, agricultural and hunting activities. Church, Folklore and Music

The Church of Matki Bożej Nieustającej Pomocy adds another point of focus. It is a wooden church that was relocated to Lelis in 1989. Unlike the living rooms and tools, the focus here is on a single building; its relocation is a specific part of its history. The ethnographic centre explores the everyday life of a population, while the church is a building whose timber construction and move to a new location are two distinctive features. The performances and music festival offer a different focus from the exhibition: folklore is presented as performance, while the living rooms and tools show the material side of everyday life.
