Explore the city and its cycling routes
The E 65 railway line, National Road 7 and Voivodeship Roads 544 and 563 run through Mława. These routes provide a concrete framework for finding your way around the city. Mława also has cycling routes along Działdowska Street, Aleja Marszałkowska, Górna, Szpitalna, Kopernika, Piłsudskiego, Napoleońska and Padlewskiego streets, as well as Aleja św. Wojciecha. The many streets listed show that cycling routes are part of the cityscape. When planning your trip, you can make cycling a focus and keep these areas in mind as you find your way around Mława.
Museum and city history
The Muzeum Ziemi Zawkrzeńskiej officially opened on 8 December 1929. It has five departments, including archaeology, history, art and nature. The history department presents a permanent exhibition on the history of Mława and the Zawkrzeńska region. Its timeline spans from the 16th century to the end of the Second World War. The museum therefore offers a clearly defined thematic and chronological perspective on regional history, alongside its archaeological, artistic and natural history collections.
The museum also has an education department, which runs museum lessons and workshops. This adds a dedicated educational programme to the exhibition areas. The city is also home to buildings from different historical periods. The Bank Polski building was constructed in 1938 and is considered one of the most interesting examples of interwar modernist architecture in northern Masovia. The former prison on what is now Narutowicza Street dates from 1889. The two buildings offer contrasting points of interest: one features interwar modernist architecture, while the other has a history reaching back to the late 19th century.
Las Mławski: nature and traces of history
Las Mławski lies within the Zieluńsko-Rzęgnowski Protected Landscape Area. Nature trails are marked out in the forest. A notable feature near Krajewo is a lake in Las Mławski with a pine bog woodland habitat on an island. The forest, nature trails and this particular habitat create a focus on nature that differs clearly from Mława’s museums and architectural history.
Three groups of fortifications lie at the northern edge of Las Mławski: “Krajewo,” with 2 bunkers; “Piekiełko,” with 4 bunkers; and “Dźwierznia Łysa Góra,” with 4 bunkers. The Mławski Tourist Trail also includes original Second World War fortifications along its route, including combat bunkers and trenches. These traces of history add a military-historical perspective to the natural landscape. The bison enclosure in Krajewo also has an important educational role.
