Recreation at Karczunek Reservoir
Karczunek Reservoir in Kałuszyn has a swimming area with a sandy beach. Facilities include two beach volleyball courts, a children's playground, changing rooms and toilets. More than a thousand people murdered between 1941 and 1943 lie in mass graves in the former cemetery. The site thus honours both the Jewish community and those who were murdered. A monument dating from 1939 stands in the parish cemetery in Kałuszyn, honouring the soldiers of the 6th Infantry Regiment of the Legions of Marshal Józef Piłsudski (6. Pułk Piechoty Legionów Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego). The equestrian monument Złoty Ułan was unveiled on 13 September 2014, on the 75th anniversary of the 1939 Battle of Kałuszyn. It depicts a uhlan sitting on a horse, raising his sabre as a signal to fight.
The dates refer to different things: 1939 is the year of the monument in the parish cemetery; for Złoty Ułan, 2014 marks the unveiling, while 1939 is the year of the battle whose anniversary provided the occasion. This helps distinguish the dates associated with the two monuments.
Transport and Travel Planning
The A2 section between the end of the Mińsk Mazowiecki bypass and the Groszki junction on DK2 passes through the Kałuszyn junction. It opened on 29 August 2024 and allows through traffic to bypass Kałuszyn.
