The Młochowski Forest is criss-crossed by numerous well-marked and well-maintained walking, cycling, and horse-riding trails, making it suitable for a weekend getaway year-round. Those who like to combine a stay with exercise in the great outdoors will find several ways to spend their time outside here. Options range from walking and cycling to horse riding; the trails are designated for these activities.

The town park also has its own character. Located in the centre of Podkowa Leśna, it is a somewhat neglected, largely natural mixed forest dominated by pines and oaks. Adults use it as a place for walks. When snow covers the ground in winter, children play in it. This park therefore offers a different kind of experience from the trails in the Młochowski Forest: a walk in a woodland setting right in the middle of town.

Circular routes and discoveries along the way

A map of Podkowa Leśna and the Młochowski Forest shows three well-marked cycling loops: a short, a medium, and a long route. In winter, these same routes also serve as cross-country ski trails. The change of season therefore changes the intended activity, while the division into three different route lengths provides a practical guide for planning. Cross-country skiing is suggested for a winter outing, and cycling in other seasons.

An educational trail in the Podkowa Leśna and Młochowski Forest area has 14 stations. They explain natural and cultural aspects of the places along the route. This makes it a way to take in both the landscape and the stories of the area. The stations give the trail a particular focus, rather than making it simply another outdoor activity.

Wooden houses and Stawisko

Among the area’s distinctive buildings is the single-storey wooden house “Zabytek.” It is considered the oldest house in Podkowa Leśna and is a remnant of the Stanisławów summer colony dating from the late 19th century. The wooden villa “Aida” tells a different architectural story: around 1900, Stanisław Wilhelm Lilpop had it built in the Swiss style as a hunting lodge. In the 1920s, it became the Iwaszkiewicz family’s summer house. Together, the two houses illustrate different chapters of local history, without their stories being one and the same.

The museum’s interior at Stawisko has retained its original character. After the writer’s death, Stawisko became state property in 1980, in accordance with his wishes as expressed in his will, and serves as a museum dedicated to Anna and Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz. The tradition of the literary and musical salon is also continued there. Stawisko thus places both the historic house and literary and musical culture at its centre.

The town park adds walks in a natural setting in the centre to these options.
