Church, Museum and Distinctive Buildings

The parish church of St Joseph was built in the second half of the 14th century beside a medieval castle complex. Inside are historic mementos, memorial plaques and epitaphs. The history of the building and commemoration meet in the same place: as well as the church’s period of construction, the mementos offer a glimpse into its history.

The Muzeum Szlachty Mazowieckiej in Ciechanów collects items relating to the history of the Ciechanów region. It also presents the exhibition “Utracony świat – ślady rodzin żydowskich w Ciechanowie do roku 1942” (“A Lost World – Traces of Jewish Families in Ciechanów up to 1942”), which explores the traces of Jewish families in Ciechanów up to 1942. The collection also includes folk sculpture from the collection of Helena and Marian Przedpełski. The museum therefore focuses both on the history of the region and on individual cultural artefacts.

Krzywa Hala, a distinctive historic building constructed in 1942–1943, is located in the “Bloki” housing estate. Another perspective on the town’s history awaits at the junction of ul. Fabryczna and ul. Sienkiewicza: a locomotive stands there with an information board about the history of the narrow-gauge railway. There is also a section of track, paths, benches and waste bins.

Hands-on Experiments and Outdoor Exploration

At Park Nauki Torus, visitors can experiment independently and discover principles and connections. The topics range mainly from physics and mathematics to technology and architecture. If you are looking for an active outing, experimenting offers a different perspective from the city’s historic sites and collections.

The Green Maze at Skwer 4 czerwca 1989 roku on ul. Fabryczna also invites visitors to explore. It is open to visitors; its winding paths are one metre wide and arranged in a triangular shape. Check its condition locally before your visit.

Water and a Cycling Link at Krubin

Water sports and kayak and pedal boat rentals are available at Kąpielisko Krubin. There is a sandy beach and a bathing area. Bathing facilities and seasonal services may change; check the latest information before your visit. This will help you decide whether your trip should focus more on Ciechanów’s cultural sites or on activities by the water.

A cycle path leads from the centre of Ciechanów to Kąpielisko Krubin, where there is a city bike rental station. This is a useful reference point if you would like to combine cycling with time by the water.

In Opinogóra, the Muzeum Romantyzmu offers guided tours, museum classes and practical workshops. In Powiat ciechanowski, the Ciechanów–Opinogóra itinerary is designed as a two-day weekend programme. It combines the search for the treasure of the Masovian princes with the theme of Romanticism. This makes a regional weekend focus another option alongside the individual sites in Ciechanów.
