A royal Piast castle, a collection of 220 objects and a park landscape of waterways and forest paths give Międzyrzecki a distinctive character. Cultural history and nature experiences offer different focal points for planning your trip. You can decide whether to focus your stay more on the castle and museum or on activities in Pszczewski Park.

Castle and Collection in Międzyrzecki

The complex of the Muzeum Ziemi Międzyrzeckiej im. Alfa Kowalskiego includes a castle dating from the 14th to the 16th century. It is the only royal Piast castle in Lubusz Voivodeship. The museum also houses a collection of 220 objects, including coffin portraits, inscription panels and heraldic panels. The building and the collection offer different points of interest: the castle reflects its long construction period, while the different groups of objects provide a look at portraits, writing and coats of arms.

If cultural history is your main interest, you can consider both aspects together as a focus for your trip. You can also use them as a guide when looking for a holiday apartment: choose a location based on whether the castle and collection or other experiences are the deciding factor.

Water and Trails in Pszczewski Landscape Park

Pszczewski Landscape Park extends across the municipalities of Międzyrzecz, Przytoczna, Pszczew and Trzciel. Its clean waters are suitable for recreation and water sports; kayaking trips are organised on the Obra. Numerous cycling and hiking trails run through the forests. This offers two different options: water-based activities and trails through the forest.

This distinction is useful when planning your holiday: you can decide whether you would rather focus on water sports and kayaking or on cycling and hiking. Since the park extends across several municipalities, searching for a holiday apartment in a specific location may be worthwhile. Choose your base according to the experiences that matter most to you during your stay, rather than deciding solely by the name of the destination.

Routes and Religious Sites Nearby

In Pniewo, near Międzyrzecz, you will find the only underground route in the Międzyrzecki Rejon Umocniony that is open year-round. Even for a route that is open year-round, check seasonal route conditions before travelling. This lets you include the option in your plans without assuming what conditions will be like when you visit.

Kalwaria Rokitniańska is also near Międzyrzecz: between Lake Lubikowskie and Lake Rokitniańskie, a stone-covered path runs for 4.5 kilometres past 32 stations. Every year, on the Friday before Palm Sunday, thousands of worshippers gather at the first station and walk the entire route by torchlight to the Sanktuarium. If this date is important to your travel plans, check the event dates before your visit. The church in Rokitno, also near Międzyrzecz, was raised to the status of a minor basilica by Pope John Paul II in 2001. Together, the path, annual procession and church give the surrounding area a distinctive religious focus.
