Radzyń Podlaski: Castle, Orangery and the Białka
Accommodation in Radzyń Podlaski
Radzyń Podlaski can be explored through a variety of themes: the castle complex, religious architecture and paths along the Białka. Architecture enthusiasts will find details from the history of the residence here; those who prefer to plan an active stay can choose between a riverside path and a longer cycling route. These different options make it easier to shape your stay around your own interests.
Castle Complex and Orangery
The castle and park complex lies in the eastern part of the city, on an artificially reshaped northern river terrace of the Białka. Its layout follows the French principle of “entre cour et jardin”: the main building stands between a courtyard of honour and the garden behind it. The term thus describes not only an architectural style but also the spatial arrangement of the residence.
The Orangery is a distinctive part of the complex. It was built around 1760 during the extensive renovation of the residence commissioned by Eustachy Potocki. The design is by Jakub Fontana, and the sculptures by Jan Chryzostom Redler. The Orangery is considered one of the most beautiful Rococo orangeries in Poland. Architecture, sculpture and the history of the residence thus come together in one building.
Its later use is also part of its history: in the 1950s and 1960s, the Orangery was remodelled for use as a cinema and cultural centre. Since 1996, the “Oranżeria” gallery in its basement rooms has hosted changing exhibitions. If you would like to plan a visit around a particular exhibition, check the current programme in advance.
Chapels, Church and Commemoration
The Chapel of the Guardian Angels was built in the 17th century with financial support from Vice-Chancellor Stanisław Antoni Szczuka. Its hexagonal floor plan, two storeys and conical roof with a Baroque lantern give it a distinctive appearance. Stucco decorations in the Lublin Renaissance style were also uncovered during extensive restoration work from 2009 to 2011.
In the Church of the Holy Trinity, the Mniszech epitaph points to another aspect of local history: it is one of the outstanding monuments of its kind in Poland. A specific historical event is also associated with the church. On 2 February 1767, Ignacy Krasicki officiated there at the marriage of Cecylia Urszula Potocka and Prince Janusz Sanguszko.
The “Warszawska 5a” Memorial Room is dedicated to remembering the victims of Soviet and German totalitarianism in the Radzyń Podlaski area and Radzyń County. Its remit includes collecting, preserving and conserving materials on this subject, as well as making them accessible and promoting them.
Paths Along the Białka and a Cycling Route
The “Bulwar nad Białką” tourist cycle path runs along the river and near the listed complex of the parish Church of the Holy Trinity. The 50-kilometre “Doliną Tyśmienicy” circular route covers a longer distance: it follows public roads through Radzyń Podlaski, the Tyśmienica Valley, Czemierniki, Suchowola and Branica before returning to Radzyń Podlaski. This lets you choose between following the river and taking a longer tour through several places. As signage and road conditions can change, check them before setting out.
A street workout park is located by the reservoir, alongside the “Bulwar nad Białką” cycle path. A municipal notice dated 21 August 2026 reported that it was complete and open for use; it is free for residents. If you are planning to visit the park, check its current status in advance.
A Recurring Cultural Event: Music
The “Dni Karola Lipińskiego” is an annual concert series featuring classical music. It honours the violin virtuoso and composer Karol Lipiński, who was born in Radzyń Podlaski. The dates and programme for the relevant year are key to planning your trip, so check them in advance.
