Kiełczówek: Manor Estate History and Riverside Habitats

Kiełczówek lies on the Widawa. The village’s history includes an impressive palace and garden complex with a summer palace, an extensive manor estate and the original settlement pattern of a manor colony. Some traces of this past have been preserved. Natural habitats, as well as a playground and outdoor fitness facilities, complement the historical features.

Palace Complex, Manor Estate and Their Traces

Around the middle of the 18th century, Kiełczówek had an impressive palace and garden complex with a summer palace. An extensive manor estate stretched south of the Widawa; some buildings from the early 20th century have been preserved. The two periods can be distinguished: the palace and garden complex dates to the mid-18th century, while the surviving manor estate buildings date to the early 20th century. Canals and the remains of guesthouses, incorporated into the walls of present-day buildings, survive from the former garden complex. A row of lime trees along the Widawa has also been preserved as part of the manor estate. These associations help put the landscape features into context: the canals and guesthouse remains point to the garden complex; the row of lime trees and surviving buildings belong to the manor estate.

A Preserved Settlement Structure

Kiełczówek was originally a manor colony. Despite some reduction in the built-up area, its former spatial structure has been preserved. Thus, alongside individual buildings and remains, the settlement pattern is also part of the village’s history: you can consider Kiełczówek as a historical whole, not just through a single building. Nature in the Project Area

The natural habitats in the project area and its immediate surroundings include alluvial meadows of type 6440 (All. Cnidion dubii). The project area itself also contains hardwood alluvial forests of ash, elm and oak (Ass. Ficario-Ulmetum minoris). These forests are relatively well preserved despite the disturbed age and species structure of the tree stand. Nature enthusiasts can therefore explore different habitat types: the more specifically classified alluvial meadows and a forest type characterised by both its tree species and its varied state of preservation.

Recreation and Structure

Local recreational facilities include a playground and outdoor fitness equipment or an outdoor fitness area. The playground is a specific point of interest for families; the fitness facilities offer a different kind of activity. The concrete structure of the Kiełczówek weir comprises abutments, piers, a sill and a footbridge with stairs. Renovation of the weir was completed in 2017.
