Gothic architectural history across several periods

The Gothic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (“Podwyższenia Krzyża Świętego”) was built in the second half of the 15th century. The surviving Gothic town hall tower also dates from the 15th century. These two distinct buildings from the same period can therefore be identified as historical landmarks.

The church’s tower spire dates from the 17th century; inside, there are also two tombstones dating from 1595 to 1605. These dates distinguish the construction period from later details. The church can therefore be understood in terms of more than just its Gothic origins: the tower spire and tombstones each add their own historical context.

Town wall and surviving traces

A small section of the town wall survives in the western part of the town. This remnant adds a different kind of historical trace to the church and town hall tower: alongside individual buildings, a surviving piece of the former fortifications remains. The contrast between the buildings and the small section of wall makes the different scales of the town’s history tangible.

Cycling routes and nature trail

The blue Oder Cycling Route connects Wrocław with Głogów; its western section passes through Ścinawa. In addition, the Ścinawa–Iwno connecting route allows cyclists to switch between the western and eastern sections. The two routes serve different purposes: one places Ścinawa on the connection between Wrocław and Głogów, while the other provides a link between the sections. If you plan your cycling around these routes, you can choose between riding the western section and switching between sections.

The “Ścinawskie Bagna” nature trail is 1.8 kilometres long and runs from Ścinawa to the mouth of the Zimnica. Unlike the cycling routes, which connect sections, its length and endpoint are specified. This offers a different planning option: a clearly defined nature route or cycling as part of a route network.
