Szarocin is especially interesting if historic architecture and connections to the landscape are both part of your travel plans. The palace tells the story of several construction phases; areas in the Szarocin forest district lie within Rudawski Landscape Park and its buffer zone. These perspectives—the specific ensemble in the village and the wider natural area—offer different scales and more than one theme to explore during your stay.

The palace and its historic construction phases

The palace was built in the early 17th century and remodeled in the Baroque style around 1720. It is a three-story building with a rectangular floor plan. Side risalits articulate the façade, and a columned portico stands on the main façade. A risalit projects from the line of the façade, while a portico is a structure supported by columns. A belvedere sits above the hipped roof. The floor plan, façade design, and roof structure thus describe the building’s exterior in greater detail than the style designation alone.

The outbuildings are also part of the history of the palace and park ensemble. They were built in the early and around the middle of the 19th century, and remodeled in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The building’s development therefore extends beyond the palace and its Baroque remodeling. The palace also retains figural and decorative stuccowork featuring bucolic scenes set against landscape backdrops. This ornament offers a different emphasis from the articulated exterior façade and adds an artistic detail to the history of the architecture.

Gardens and connections to the landscape

The garden adds another historical layer. Remains of a regular geometric garden dating from the 17th century have survived; in the mid-19th century, the grounds were redesigned as a landscape park. Traces of the older, geometrically ordered garden thus sit alongside a later park design. The park in Szarocin is listed both in the register of monuments and in the inventory of monuments.

The natural area can also be viewed on a broader regional scale. Areas in the Szarocin forest district lie within Rudawski Landscape Park and its buffer zone. Within the jurisdiction of the Kamienna Góra Forest District, the section of the park there covers 3,094.58 hectares; the buffer zone covers a further 85.36 hectares. Rudawski Landscape Park includes, among other things, meadow, pasture, and peat bog communities. These landscape types complement the ensemble’s cultural significance with a perspective on the park’s varied natural environment.

Planning your holiday

The palace, its associated buildings, and the park are located in the eastern part of Szarocin, about 0.5 kilometers south of the Kamienna Góra–Kowary main road. This gives you a specific point of reference in the village for planning your trip. You can consider whether the ensemble’s architectural and garden history or its broader connection to the landscape matters more to you. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Szarocin, this distinction can help you match the location you want with your interests in culture and landscape.
