Waterfall and gorge: defining dimensions
Kamieńczyk Waterfall is the highest waterfall in the Polish Giant Mountains. Its brink is 843 m above sea level; the water plunges into the Wąwóz Kamieńczyka gorge in a three-tiered cascade 27 m high. The elevation of the brink and the height of the cascade refer to different things: the former describes its level above sea level, while the latter describes the waterfall itself.
Wąwóz Kamieńczyka is about 100 m long; its vertical rock walls are more than 25 m high, and in some places the gorge is no more than 4 m wide. Length, wall height and the narrow width in places thus represent different proportions. The combination of a narrow gorge and a high, three-tiered cascade makes this natural landmark particularly interesting for anyone fascinated by water and rock formations.
A geological detail adds to the picture: the cave “Złota Jama” lies behind the middle cascade. It was partly excavated by the Walloons and contains pegmatite and amethyst deposits. This means that, alongside water and rock, mineral features are also part of this natural attraction.

Those interested in local history can explore the town’s history and Szklarska Poręba’s artists’ colony at the Muzeum Karkonoskie – Dom Carla i Gerharta Hauptmannów.
