Jamna: Panoramas, Memorial Sites and Trails

Jamna combines a turbulent history with sweeping views across the foothills to the Tatras. Hiking and cycling routes run through or past the village, while memorial sites commemorate events from 1944. Memorial Sites and History

In September 1944, the “Barbara” partisan battalion of the 16th Infantry Regiment of the Polish Home Army, commanded by Captain Eugeniusz Antoni Borowski “Leliwa,” fought German troops in Jamna. In addition, 57 people died during the pacification operation in Jamna in September 1944. Patriotic memorial ceremonies are held on the last Sunday in September in remembrance of the victims who fell in 1944. The memorial room for Father Jan Góra in the House of Saint Hyacinth displays his authentic furniture, everyday items, books, pictures, clothing and other memorabilia. From Panoramas to Hiking Trails

From Jamna’s highest point, the view stretches across the Rożnów-Ciężkowice foothills and the Beskid Sądecki to the panorama of the Tatras. This landscape view offers a different perspective from the memorial sites, drawing your attention to the vast surroundings. A sleigh ride through the landscape of the Jamna Massif is considered a winter activity.

There are also several hiking routes to choose from. The third section of the “Barbara” partisan battalion trail passes through Jamna on the Sucha Góra–Jamna–Bartkowa route. The red trail passes the mountain hut by the church in Jamna, crosses the plateau to Siekierczyna and turns onto a forest path there. Check the current trail markings on site before setting out.

The yellow trail heads west to the PKS bus stop in Jamna and continues from there towards Jezioro Rożnowskie. If you plan to use the bus stop for a bus journey, check the current timetable for a suitable connection. The blue trail was planned as a loop from Jamna via Siekierczyna and Bukowiec, then through the Paleśnianka Valley back to Jamna. Because permission to mark the trail on private land was not granted, only the first part of the plan was carried out.

The “Wielka Pętla Południowa” cycling route runs through Zakliczyn, Zdonia, Słona, Olszowa, Jamna, Paleśnica, Dzierżaniny, Borowa, Ruda Kameralna, Filipowice, Stróże and Wesołów before returning to Zakliczyn.
