Ptaszkowa lies in a wide valley at an altitude of about 500 metres. Valley views, protected area and nature trail
North of the village are the elevations of Rosochatka (753 m) and Koziniec (560 m). To the south rises the Podstawne–Jaworze massif, with Podstawne (818 m) and Jaworze (882 m). The Ptaszkowa nature trail takes in this landscape and includes a viewpoint overlooking Rosochatka, Koziniec and the centre of Ptaszkowa. This means that both the surrounding heights and the village itself are in view.
The nature trail also includes a small ecological protected area that safeguards valuable plant habitats. It also passes through habitats for numerous insects and amphibians. Animals mentioned here include fire salamanders, grass frogs and common toads. If you are interested in the natural environment, you will find several aspects of the habitat here: protected plant areas, animal inhabitants and a viewpoint over the landscape.
Hiking trails and active days
The nature trail shares part of its route with a separately marked Pope’s Trail. A blue hiking trail also leads from Ptaszkowa to Krynica. A green hiking trail runs from the summit to Grybów. These routes differ in their stated destinations and trail colours.
There are also a variety of options for other active pursuits. A mountain bike trail runs alongside the observation tower. The Centrum Sportów Zimowych in Ptaszkowa has two paved cross-country ski trails: one is 1,000 metres long and the other 1,600 metres. Both are illuminated, artificially snowed and groomed. Cross-country skiing is another way to explore Ptaszkowa; the trail lengths give you a concrete point of reference for planning your day.
The rope park consists of four separate courses at different heights and with varying levels of difficulty. Its children’s course is intended mainly for children, but adults can use it too, and it has 20 obstacles. For families looking for an activity to enjoy together, this division makes the courses distinct from one another. You can plan a visit to the rope park as the main focus of an outing without losing sight of the village’s other attractions.
Gothic wooden church and local history
The wooden church reveals another side of Ptaszkowa: it was built in 1555 in the Gothic style, using log construction. Inside the church, on the right side altar, is a Gothic Madonna and Child sculpture dating from around 1420. Its construction, style and sculpture each offer a different historical perspective. If you would like to include art and history in your trip alongside nature and outdoor activities, the church offers a cultural point of interest in its own right.
