Kazimierz Wielki was born in Kowal on 30 April 1310; he later became King of Poland. This connection gives the town a tangible historical landmark. The Park im. króla Kazimierza Wielkiego (King Kazimierz Wielki Park) bears his name and opened on the 700th anniversary of his birth. A monument to the king was unveiled in Kowal on the same anniversary.
The granite monument is 7 m high. It was created by Tadeusz Biniewicz from Gostynin and designed by Artur Jezierski from Kowal. The monument thus brings together a creator from Gostynin and a designer from Kowal. The historical connection is made tangible through the birth date, the park and the monument.
Music and cultural groups in Kowal
Kowal’s volunteer fire brigade brass band has a history spanning more than a hundred years. It currently consists of 40 musicians and 20 majorettes; membership numbers may change. The band is a tangible focal point of the town’s musical life.
Kapela spod Kowala is also one of the town’s cultural groups. The vocal and music ensemble “Melodia” is led by Anna Błażejczak. Together with the volunteer fire brigade brass band, it shows that Kowal’s cultural scene is not limited to its historical memorials.

Kowal is connected to the A1 via the “Kowal” interchange, about 3 km away. This is a useful landmark if you are travelling by car; check your route before setting off.
