Płużnica: Gothic architecture, railway history and local celebrations

Płużnica brings together a Gothic church, traces of a former railway connection and concrete examples of local festival culture. There is also a walking or cycling route along a former railway track to the village. A walking or cycling route runs from Ostrowo on Lake Wieczno Północne to Płużnica along a former railway track. The railway line that once ran through Płużnica connected Chełmża with Mełno. This historic connection between two places should be distinguished from the specific route description, which names Ostrowo on the lake as the starting point and Płużnica as the destination. Gothic architecture and houses from the 1930s

The Church of St Margaret (pw. św. Małgorzaty) was built at the beginning of the 14th century and is one of the valuable Gothic architectural monuments of the Chełmno Land. The village of Płużnica is also home to characteristic wooden “poniatówki” houses from the 1930s. Together, these buildings bring two different periods into view: the Gothic church dates from the early 14th century, while the wooden houses are from a much later period. Horses and local festival culture

The 23rd Annual Horse Day took place in Płużnica on 11 July 2026. It brought together horse enthusiasts and people interested in equestrian traditions and family recreation. The programme included a parade of horses and horse-drawn carriages, a food area and stalls run by local exhibitors. This edition thus combined horses and carriages with food and local exhibitors. The Dożynki Gminne (municipal harvest festival) focuses on a different occasion. At a harvest festival in Płużnica, local authorities, invited guests, farmers and residents gathered to celebrate the end of the harvest and give thanks for the crops gathered. In contrast to the horse festival, the theme here is the end of the harvest and giving thanks together; the procession connects two specific places in the village.
