Chapel and connections to Chopin
The classicist chapel stands in the centre of Turzno and was endowed by the Jeżewski family in 1800. It provides a tangible reference point for local history. Fryderyk Chopin visited Turzno in both 1825 and 1827. These two visits give the town a clearly dated connection to Chopin, which can be seen as a distinct cultural highlight alongside its architecture and parkland. Chopin’s visits took place 25 and 27 years after the chapel was endowed.
Palace park and Zameczek
The English landscape park surrounding the palace in Turzno covers 16 hectares. It features more than 50 coniferous and deciduous tree species; a precise count puts the number at 54. These include Douglas fir, Caucasian wingnut, American tulip tree and swamp oak. The park dates from the first half of the 19th century. Its size, variety of tree species and English landscape style give a stay its own connection to nature and architecture.
Behind the palace stands the neo-Gothic garden pavilion Zameczek. It was built around 1850 under Count Augustyn Działowski, fell into disrepair after the war and was rebuilt in 2011. It now houses a chapel where weddings are often held. The hotel and conference complex Pałac Romantyczny is also part of the town’s history: its ceremonial opening took place on 14 February 2012. The dated milestones thus range from the chapel’s endowment in 1800, through the construction of the pavilion, to more recent history.
