Cycling through Papowo Toruńskie

The cycling route from Toruń to Młyniec is 28 kilometres long in total and passes through Papowo Toruńskie. Other named stops include Koniczynka, Lipniczki, Turzno, Gronówko, Lake Kamionki and Gronowo. A church with a history and richly layered furnishings

The Church of St. Nicholas was built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. Its building history did not end there: a Neo-Gothic tower and porch were added in 1907. The chancel is the oldest part of the church. These details distinguish the early construction period from later additions, rather than treating them as a single phase of construction.

The furnishings, too, include works from different periods. The Late Baroque high altar dates from 1720. It features sculptures of two holy bishops, two angels and God the Father; an image of the Madonna and Child is at the centre. Other furnishings include a Rococo side altar on the left, dating from the second half of the 18th century; a Baroque pulpit from around 1720; and a Baroque baptismal font from the first half of the 18th century. The upper section of one altar also contains a Late Gothic bust of Saint Barbara from around 1500.

Choir stalls and a confessional from 1794 complete the furnishings mentioned here. This makes it possible to distinguish the church’s architectural history from its individual works: the church dates from the Middle Ages, while the altars, pulpit, baptismal font and other furnishings represent different later periods. Traces in the churchyard

The churchyard is also part of the village’s history. It contains the graves of prominent families as well as Toruń national and social activists from the period of the Partitions of Poland. The families named include the Czarliński family, owners of Zakrzewko, and the Donimirski family, owners of Łysomice. The graves thus connect the history of individual families with the historical context of the Partitions of Poland.

Eight daily services on MZK route 142 were planned for 2026. The route was to run from Toruń, Plac św. Katarzyny, via Papowo Toruńskie and Łysomice, and back to Plac św. Katarzyny in Toruń.
