Tleń: River Trails, Forest and Local History

Wooden sculptures, the railway station and a natural monument

Four-metre-high wooden sculptures stand in a square in Tleń. They depict a mushroom picker, a forestry worker, an angler and a chub. The subjects highlight different themes that are also reflected in experiences around the town: forest, fishing and waterways. The same square also features a memorial stone and a plaque about Prof. Alfons Hoffmann.

Another striking destination lies beside the railway bridge: a boulder partly covered with lichen and designated as a natural monument. It has a circumference of 12.3 metres; it is 4.8 metres long, 4.9 metres wide and 1.4 metres high. These measurements give the rock a tangible scale, while its location beside the bridge offers another point of interest on a walk through Tleń.

The railway station complex is also part of the townscape. It is one of the surviving elements of Tleń’s historic layout and is considered cultural heritage of great value. Together with the wooden sculptures and memorial stone, it offers a glimpse of the town’s cultural traces, without requiring any one theme to define your visit.

Walks by the river and lake

Tleń is a tourist recreation centre with numerous walking, cycling and water trails. For a walk, you can follow the Prusina or Wda rivers. The Piętaszków hiking trail runs from a crossroads on the road from Tleń to the water station along a forest path towards Lake Mukrz, then continues along the lakeshore. Its route description thus links forest and lakeshore in a single walk.

For a loop along the Wda, the short, easy Do Piekła hiking and Nordic walking trail starts in Tleń. The route is 3.3 kilometres long. Another lake loop is Na perłowym szlaku: it also starts in Tleń, runs for 5.2 kilometres around Lake Mukrz and offers numerous viewpoints. The two loops differ both in their stated length and in their described routes—one follows the Wda, while the other circles the lake and passes viewpoints.

The Ścieżynka Zagłoby hiking trail runs from Tleń via Lake Piaseczno, Stara Rzeka and Radańska to Osie. Its sequence of places offers another way to plan a walk: choose either a loop around Lake Mukrz or a trail connecting several named locations. The route descriptions help distinguish between these different ways of exploring the area.

Forest trails, a cycling loop and a water route

The running trail project, which is located entirely in the forest, includes the 3-kilometre Leśny Trail and the 5-kilometre Klaudi Adventure; one starting point is in Tleń. For cyclists, the Tropami II Rzeczypospolitej loop connects Osie, Tleń, Wierzchy, Łążek and Starą Rzekę. Unlike the loops around Lake Mukrz mentioned above, this cycling route passes through several places.

A special connection is also described on the water: between the Żur Reservoir and Lake Mukrz, kayakers carry their kayaks over this section. This is a useful detail for anyone interested in waterways, without implying that there is a continuous route between the two bodies of water.
