Stara Rzeka lies in a broad valley of the Wda, between steep slopes covered in deciduous forest. Old trees designated as natural monuments, together with the meandering river, shape the landscape. The village extends along both banks of the Wda. The Wda Valley, Forest and Local History
From a spot at the edge of the forest near Stara Rzeka, you can see the village and a wide bend in the Wda. The view also shows the village’s position on both sides of the river and the winding course of the valley. Flowering meadows in the Wda Valley are considered an appealing part of the landscape; alongside the wooded slopes and old trees designated as natural monuments, they add another feature to the valley view.

Hiking Between Trailheads and Junctions
The hiking trails differ in their routes and starting points. The “Ścieżka Ciszy” trail starts in Stara Rzeka at a kayak landing and the old school. From there, it follows forest tracks and firebreaks, and partly uses marked hiking trails, including the red “Stu z nieba” trail. The different types of paths are therefore a useful distinction to keep in mind when planning a hike.
The black “Ścieżynka Zagłoby” trail, suitable for recreational walks, runs from a section near Lake Piaseczno to Stara Rzeka through the Wda Valley. It meets the blue “Harcerzy Światowida” trail; both follow the meandering valley to the trail junction at the bridge in Stara Rzeka. One section of the blue trail is listed as 10.2 kilometres long, and the section to the trail junction as 11.5 kilometres. The connection at the bridge and the separately listed trail sections provide specific points of reference.
A Longer Cycling Route and Choosing Accommodation
There is also a specific route for cyclists: the black “Śladami II Rzeczypospolitej” cycling route is 53.7 kilometres long. It runs through Osie, Tleń, Wierzchy, Łążek and Stara Rzeka before returning to Osie. Stara Rzeka is therefore part of a longer loop, while the hiking trails mentioned above have their own starting points and a junction in the village. This makes it possible to compare different kinds of outings: individual hikes in the Wda Valley or a cycling route through several villages.
This distinction can be useful when choosing a holiday apartment in Stara Rzeka. Consider whether your days will mainly involve hikes in the valley or the longer cycling route, and focus your search accordingly.
