The approximately 200-year-old oak grows in a forest in Strzelewo managed by Leśnictwo Kruszyn, which is based in Zielonczyn. The oak is 18 m tall, with a crown 17 m wide; its trunk circumference at breast height is 340 cm. The crown is therefore only one metre narrower than the tree is tall—a clear way to compare its dimensions. Registered as a natural monument, the oak offers a tangible connection to nature during a stay in Strzelewo.
Castle, park and traces of history
The Neo-Gothic castle in Strzelewo was built in 1868, extended in 1910 and remodelled in 1968–1969. It lost its stylistic features during this remodelling. The building’s history therefore includes several clearly dated changes, not just its construction date.
Horse chestnuts, Norway maples, European beeches and black locusts grow in the park by the castle. A spreading copper beech is particularly striking and stands out as a feature in its own right among the variety of trees. The Evangelical cemetery offers a different historical impression: it lies on a slope beside the road from Strzelewo to Ugoda and dates from around the turn of the 20th century. The site covers 0.07 ha and is completely overgrown with lilac; no gravestones remain.
Strzelewo is also home to a wayside shrine classified as historic. A distillery is another historic building in the village. A green circular route through several places
The route description, last revised in 2021, presents the green-marked nature trail cycling route as a circular route through Strzelewo and other places in the central and southern parts of Sicienko municipality. According to this description, in Strzelewo the route crosses National Road 10 and then continues to the Kruszyn Nature Reserve and along a field track to the Zielonczyn forester’s lodge. The loop therefore explicitly includes other places in the municipality. Before setting out, check the route and its condition locally.
