Graduation Towers and Spa History

The three graduation towers in Ciechocinek are 1,742.3 metres long in total and just under 16 metres high. They are considered the largest graduation towers in the world. Together with the salt works and Tężniowy Park and Zdrojowy Park, they form a historic complex: since 22 November 2017, it has been recognised as a Pomnik Historii (Historic Monument). The designation was granted by a decree of Polish President Andrzej Duda.

Those interested in the development of spa operations and salt production can also find exhibits on salt boiling and the history of the spa at the Muzeum Warzelni Soli i Lecznictwa Uzdrowiskowego. The exhibits include carefully restored equipment for therapeutic gymnastics by Wilhelm Zander. The museum is 1,300 metres from the graduation towers. A section of the Trakt Solny runs along the flood embankment and can be used to reach it.

Parks with Distinctive Features

Zdrojowy Park, also called Główny Park, covers about 19 hectares and is home to more than 140 plant species. A striking natural feature is the pedunculate oak “Konstanty,” which is protected as a natural monument. It is more than 22 metres tall and has a trunk circumference of 547 centimetres. Ciechocinek’s oldest park, Zdrojowy Park is also known for its lush vegetation, including rare tree and shrub species. Typical wooden structures include a music pavilion in the Zakopane style and a pump room.

A floral clock stands at the park entrance, and a monument to Stanisław Staszic stands in its centre. The clock face is planted with several thousand flowers each year. Its hands are moved by an electric mechanism designed by J. Hibner and located beneath the raised mound. In Tężniowy Park, the oldest section runs from Plac Gdański towards Graduation Tower No. 1; this area is mainly used for walks and relaxation. The park’s main walking route, the promenade, runs through its southwest side and is lined with dense trees.

Water Activities and Leisure

At the Plaża Miejska nad Wisłą im. prof. Marka Grzesia beach on the Vistula, there are beach volleyball courts, gazebos and a barbecue area. This named municipal recreation area offers activities beyond visits to the parks and museums. The water playground and summer swimming pools named im. Heleny Prawdzic-Kuczalskiej cover just under one hectare. Water attractions include summer pools and three slides; the longest, “Anakonda,” is 110 metres long. The pools are seasonal, so it is worth checking the dates before your visit.

Leisure facilities are also grouped along Staszica Street: the former Millennium Park has tennis courts, a climbing wall, a ropes course and a café. As availability may change, it is best to check what is open before visiting.

Compare Hiking and Cycling Routes

The marked hiking routes vary considerably in their approximate lengths. The red Toruń–Ciechocinek–Nieszawa route passes through Ciechocinek and is about 41 kilometres long. The yellow “Kujawski” route runs from Podole via Ciechocinek, Wołuszewo and Aleksandrów Kujawski to Służewo; it is around 24 kilometres long. The two shorter routes are about eight kilometres each: the green “Krystynki” route runs from Ciechocinek via Kuczek to Raciążek, while the blue “Wiślany” route runs from Ciechocinek via Słońsk Dolny to Wołuszewo.

For cycling, the Toruń–Ciechocinek–Włocławek route is another option: it passes through Ciechocinek and is about 63 kilometres long. These lengths provide a concrete comparison of the routes described, but do not indicate walking or cycling times. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can therefore consider whether graduation towers and parks, water activities, or hiking and cycling tours will be the main focus of your stay.
