Lake and moraine hills
At 220 hectares, Jezioro Wieleńskie is one of the largest lakes in Przemęcki Landscape Park. Numerous holiday resorts, beaches and bathing areas lie along its shores. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, it is helpful to first consider whether the lake itself or one of the tours is the main reason for choosing Wieleń.
The wooded Wieleńskie Góry lie west of Wieleń. These moraine hills reach up to 81 metres above sea level and are also part of Przemęcki Landscape Park. The lake and the hills offer different landscape impressions around the town: a large expanse of water on one side and wooded elevations on the other. If you like to include both water and wooded landscapes in your travel plans, these are two distinct features of the surroundings to help guide your excursion planning.
Canoe trip or cycling route
The Konwaliowy Szlak Kajakowy is a 37-kilometre circular route. It starts and ends in Wieleń, where you can rent kayaks and get information about organising a canoe trip. Its circular layout makes the tour easy to plan as a standalone activity: it begins and ends in the same place. The stated total distance helps you factor the route into your day’s plans without confusing it with the cycling tour also available in Wieleń.
The Cistercian Cycling Route is 55 kilometres long in total, of which 33 kilometres run through the municipality of Przemęt. You can start the tour in Wieleń. From there, the route follows a paved road along Jezioro Wieleńskie and Jezioro Osłonińskie to Olejnica. This gives you both the total distance and the portion within the municipality when planning your ride; the paved road along the two lakes describes the route section mentioned here. If you are planning your stay mainly around a cycling trip, this route is a separate point of reference alongside the canoe circuit.
Church and religious tradition
The Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Ucieczki Grzeszników in Wieleń is a late Baroque church. It was built by Cistercians between 1731 and 1742. Its construction period and architectural style give the town a cultural and historical focus that clearly differs from its nature and water-based attractions. The main indulgence celebrations at the sanctuary take place every year on 2 July.
A separate date in the more recent history of Sanktuarium Wieleń in Wieleń Zaobrzański is 3 July 2005: on that day, papal crowns were placed on the Child Jesus and the Mother of God depicted in the miraculous statue venerated there. The annual indulgence celebrations and this historical event are different pieces of information and should not be combined into a single date when planning your trip.
