Luboń: Nature, the Warta and industrial history
Accommodation in Luboń
Luboń reveals several different sides at once: nature and relaxation, water-based experiences and traces of industrial history. The “Śladami historii Lubonia” trail leads through four places that illustrate nature, leisure, industry and Luboń’s local landscape. When planning your trip, you can weigh up whether you would rather spend your time outdoors, by the water or exploring cultural attractions.
Finding your way along the trail through Luboń
Each of the trail’s four locations has an information board on a particular theme. It provides local information, a map of the Nadwarciański Szlak Rowerowy between Poznań, Luboń and the Wielkopolski Park Narodowy, and guidance for further sightseeing. The trail thus offers a thematic introduction to different aspects of the city. The map also shows a longer cycling route: the Nadwarciański Szlak Rowerowy follows the Warta through Kocie Doły to the Wielkopolski Park Narodowy.
Green spaces, nature watching and outdoor activities
Lasek Majoński is a green space in Luboń used for walks, outdoor activities and nature watching. The Warta flows close to Lasek Majoński. As an important ecological corridor, it provides shelter for numerous species of fish, birds and mammals. Visitors hoping to combine nature and exercise during their stay will find both a green space and a river that is important to wildlife here.
Lasek Majoński has an educational and recreational trail that is also the first 18-hole disc golf course in the Poznań area. Marked posts add to what is on offer: they are used for orienteering practice and map-based games as part of the “Zielony Punkt Kontrolny” concept. Nature watching, exercise and navigation take centre stage here in different ways. It’s a different way to spend time outdoors than walking or cycling along the Warta.
Time by the water and sports at the city beach
The Warta, which flows through Luboń, offers good conditions for walking and kayaking. Flat-water kayaking in stable touring kayaks is also suitable for families. At Plaża Miejska, visitors can use sun loungers, hammocks, pallets and blankets during the summer season. The seasonal nature of this offer is important: these seating and lounging options are available during the summer season.
The city stadium complex, with a sports field and a synthetic running track, is close to Plaża Miejska. There is also a training field, a beach soccer pitch and a street workout area nearby. Visitors wishing to combine a stay with activities by the water can also consider these sports facilities, along with walking or kayaking.
Industrial history and remembrance
Another way to explore the city is through its industrial history. A few listed buildings and houses from the former factory settlement remain on the grounds of the former Koehlmann factory. Park Siewcy is located in the area of a factory settlement built around 1908 for the managerial and technical employees of the chemical factory in Luboń. The park is home to the Siewca monument, one of the few works by Marcin Rożek to have survived to this day. These places offer different insights into the architectural and artistic traces associated with the factory.
The Muzeum Martyrologiczne w Żabikowie was founded in 1979 and looks after the grounds and objects that remain from the Nazi camps operated there from 1941 to 1945. The site of the former camp in Żabikowo is open to visitors. The museum has two permanent exhibitions: “Więzienie Policyjne Policji Bezpieczeństwa oraz Wychowawczy Obóz Pracy w Posen-Lenzingen” and “Obozy pracy Przymusowej dla Żydów w Kraju Warty 1941–1943”. The exhibitions and the former camp site form part of a visit with a serious historical focus.
The Luboński Szlak Architektury Przemysłowej also explores the city’s industrial heritage. You can reserve tickets by emailing infolubon@gmail.com or calling 61 813 00 72 or 500 287 325 at the Ośrodek Kultury w Luboniu. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment in Luboń, you can base your choice on the experiences that interest you most: nature and the Warta, outdoor activities, or industrial history and remembrance.
