Schneidemühl: Rivers, Forests and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Schneidemühl
Discover Schneidemühl through the landscape and cultural themes of the Powiat pilski. The entire powiat lies within the Noteć river basin. At the same time, the Gwda crosses its western part and flows into the Noteć at Ujście. River routes, forest trails and historic sites offer different ways to explore the region.
Rivers and Paddling Routes
A kayak route on the Noteć runs from Osiek nad Notecią to Ujście and forms part of the Wielka Pętla Wielkopolski. For longer trips, the Rurzyca and Łobżonka offer different options. The Rurzyca water route, also known as the John Paul II Kayak Route, passes through several lakes and a wooded valley. Around 25 kilometres are planned to take about two days of paddling. However, only the final four-kilometre section of the Rurzyca runs through the Powiat pilski.
The Łobżonka is considered a scenic, challenging kayak route in places. The river is navigable for 60 kilometres, a distance that should take two to three days. The Łobżonka runs for about 50 kilometres within the Powiat pilski. The two figures therefore describe different things: the navigable stretch and the river’s course within the powiat. When choosing your holiday apartment, it may help to decide first which of these river trips you want to make the focus of your journey.
Forest Trails, Nature and History
The “Dębowa Góra” forest cycling route near Osiek nad Notecią and Wyrzysk runs through the forests managed by the Kaczory Forest District. Its yellow main route is 9.2 kilometres long. Another forest cycling route, “Smok,” covers 20 kilometres and combines themes of nature and history: bunkers, trenches, war cemeteries and a national memorial site lie along the route. Check trail conditions before setting off, as they may change.
The area can also be explored on foot over longer distances. The hiking trail network in the Powiat pilski includes a 25-kilometre route from the “Kuźnik” nature reserve via Dobrzyca and Stara Łubianka to Wiesiółka. The “Torfowisko Kaczory” nature reserve protects, among other things, the strictly protected blueberry willow (Salix myrtilloides); other protected and rare plant species also grow there. These natural attractions complement the historical sites along the “Smok” cycling route, although the two routes offer different experiences.
Museums, Railway and Pilgrimage Site
The open-air museum in Osiek covers 13 hectares and features 28 buildings. The oldest dates from the 18th century, the newest from the early 20th century. In Piła, the collections of the Muzeum Okręgowe provide another regional perspective, covering archaeology, ethnography, history and art. Its permanent exhibition is devoted to furniture and residential interiors from the late 18th to the early 20th century.
The Wyrzyska Kolejka Powiatowa is a tourist attraction of the Powiat pilski. Tourist rides operate along a restored 12-kilometre section; check the operating arrangements before your trip. The Sanktuarium Maryjne in Górka Klasztorna offers a different cultural experience and is considered Poland’s oldest Marian pilgrimage site. A Passion Play is performed there every year. Check the performance dates in advance.
The road network in the Powiat pilski is considered well developed, making it easier to reach architectural monuments and places of scenic and natural interest. Choose your holiday apartment to suit the places and experiences you want to focus on during your trip.
