Podanin combines a forest education centre with a village whose historic layout is still recognisable today. The focus of its educational activities is the Labirynt Wiedzy Przyrodniczej, complemented by a nature trail and an arboretum. At the same time, a pond in the historic village centre and preserved wooden farmsteads shape the character of the place. Podanin therefore offers a range of ways to explore the area on a trip that combines an interest in nature education and village history.

Forest knowledge for different age groups

The Labirynt Wiedzy Przyrodniczej is a wooden building covering almost 180 m² and forms the centre of the Podanin Forest District’s forest education centre. The building contains a variety of innovative educational features. Activities are aimed at children, young people and adults—a broad age range that may be of interest to families, without implying that a specific programme is available for every age group.

The forest education centre’s nature trail presents, among other things, the work of foresters through the four seasons. Its theme is therefore not only the forest as a landscape, but also the work involved in caring for it. If you would like to include different ways of exploring nature and forests in your travel plans, this offers another focus alongside the educational activities at the Labirynt.

The Podanin Forest District also invites visitors to outdoor and/or indoor events at the Labirynt Wiedzy Przyrodniczej. The forest education centre also has a fire pit. Educational activities at the Forest District’s headquarters take place every year from 1 April to 31 October. This period is a useful reference point if you are considering including Podanin in your travel plans for its forest education.

Arboretum and flower meadows

The forest education centre includes an arboretum, where 500 m² of perennial flower meadows have been established. This adds another dimension to the themes of the nature trail and the Labirynt: alongside learning about the work of foresters, a landscaped area of plants also takes centre stage. The stated area refers to the flower meadows; it does not describe the total area of the arboretum.

Historic village layout in Podanin

The village’s character also offers a reason to explore Podanin. Much of its historic spatial layout as an oval village has been preserved. A pond shapes the historic village centre. These features give the village layout a clear historic dimension that extends beyond the forest education centre’s activities.

Podanin also has preserved wooden “poniatówki” farmsteads dating from the 1930s. Together with the surviving oval layout and the pond in the village centre, they draw attention to different aspects of the village’s history: its layout and its preserved farmsteads. The 1930s date applies to the farmsteads; it does not indicate the age of the entire village layout.

Choosing Podanin as a destination

To decide whether Podanin is right for your trip, consider what you are most interested in: forest education activities and the arboretum, or the historic village layout and its farmsteads? The Podanin Forest District’s headquarters is near National Road 11, providing a clear reference point for the location of this educational centre.

Consider whether nature education or village history is more suited to your interests, and take into account the stated period for the educational activities if they are important to your trip.
