Discover Stokke
Accommodation in Stokke
Stokke brings together a church with a medieval cemetery, a village museum with a unique harness racing collection, and trails exploring cultural and natural themes. There is also an open-air gallery and a ski facility. These varied highlights give you a starting point for planning your holiday: from historical insights and outdoor routes to winter activities.
Church, cemetery and village history
Today’s Stokke kirke was built in 1886, and the medieval cemetery still surrounds it. Here, you can encounter two distinct periods in time. Stokke prestegård og kirkested is a designated cultural environment of regional and national heritage value in Vestfold and Telemark. If you are interested in the history of the area, this is a tangible starting point for exploring the building’s history and the older cemetery.
Local history is also at the heart of Stokke Bygdetun. It is Vestfold’s oldest village museum and was established in 1978. The carriage shed also houses Vestfold’s only harness racing museum. Another building, Bjerkneshuset, was built as a residence in 1892. It contains an old schoolroom, the Barnas Museum with many dolls and old toys, and a country store. The various collections and rooms offer different ways to explore the museum, especially if you are interested in everyday history and ways of life in the past.
Art and nature in the open air
STI FOR ØYE is an open-air gallery at Fossnes in Stokke, accessible around the clock all year round. The gallery trail is almost two kilometres long and leads towards Himmeltrappen. For groups of ten or more, one- to two-hour guided tours or talks followed by a guided tour are available; tours are offered on request. When planning your visit, you can choose between exploring independently and requesting an option for your group.
Nordskogstien in Bokemoa offers a different combination of nature and culture. The cultural and nature trail provides information on both subjects and continues as far as Mårveien. Kyststien i Stokke, by contrast, focuses on the coast: the marked route runs from Rakkevik via Melsomvik to Vårnes, is about 13 kilometres long, and can be divided into several stages. This gives you different route options for planning: an educational trail with information about nature and culture, or a longer coastal path that you can split into separate stages.
Activities to suit the time of year
Storås Skianlegg in Stokke has around 20 kilometres of cross-country ski trails and a ski play area. The trail distance is an approximate figure, and conditions vary by season. The facility is open to everyone; as access conditions may change, check the current information with the operator before your visit.
When looking for a holiday rental in Stokke, you can start by considering the focus of your planned holiday: the museums offer village and cultural history, while the nature trail, coastal path and ski facility highlight other activities. The route distances can also help you weigh up your options: Kyststien is about 13 kilometres long, while the trail at STI FOR ØYE is almost two kilometres. This lets you decide on your preferred mix of culture, art and outdoor activities before choosing your accommodation.
