Søvik combines waterside experiences with hiking trails and traces of history. In the surrounding area, you’ll find swimming spots by the lake and sea, circular walks, and evidence of the Stone Age and ice trading. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can consider whether you want your stay to be shaped by the shoreline and nature, a particular distance to walk, or historical discoveries.

Water and Coastal Landscape

There are designated swimming spots on the north shore of Kvernhusvannet and by the sea on its southern side. At the northwestern part of Feievannet, there is a spot suitable for swimming during the summer months. Check local conditions before swimming. Kvernhusvannet is home to fish, and its birdlife is particularly rich. Along the Feievannet route, there is a beaver lodge and visible signs of active beavers; however, this does not guarantee that you will see any animals.

The landscape in Søviga and Langenes is considered to be of high quality; the scale and design of the buildings blend harmoniously with their surroundings. Søvik also has a swimming beach and smooth coastal rock surfaces within a short distance. In Sandviga, in the area around Søvik, there is a municipal rental facility. You’ll also find a sandy beach, lawns, a toilet, barbecue areas and a public jetty. Individual facilities may change; check before your visit.

In the inner part of Søviga, there is a public jetty near bus connections and grocery stores. Langenes also has well-developed walking and cycling paths.

Circular Walks of Varying Lengths

The circular walks in Langenes offer a range of distances:

• Feievannet rundt: 2.5 km
• Helleviga/Romsviga: 2.6 km
• Kvernhusvannet Rundt: 3.5 km
• Donevannet rundt: 4.9 km
• Bergeløypa: 5.9 km

The route around Kvernhusvannet has been upgraded several times and is now also suitable for off-road wheelchairs. Check its condition before setting out. Bergeløypa is considered a well-marked, blue-graded route for jogging. Parking for the Kvernhusvannet route is listed at Langenes School on the eastern side of Langenes; check parking availability before setting off.

The Helleviga/Romsviga route leads to a beach with a public toilet. The path then follows a clearly visible, blue-marked route close to the shore all the way to Romsviga. A route via Helleviga and Romsviga also leads to an old farm. Markings and trail conditions may change; check them before setting out.

Traces of History at Kvernhusvannet

A Stone Age settlement has been documented on the north shore of Kvernhusvannet. The visible foundation remains of two ice houses, associated with ice cutting and the ice trade in the 19th century, are also preserved there. The name Vaskeplassen originates from earlier trips there from Ny-Hellesund and Borøya to do laundry; the same explanation is also suggested for Høllen. Thus, archaeological traces, visible remains of the ice trade and a local account of place names can all be found beside one lake.

Culture in Kristiansand
