Its collection includes a listed merchant’s house dating from 1724 and two sea warehouses, rebuilt after a fire in 1981. It also includes one of the oldest general stores in Agder. These different features offer several concrete ways into the town’s history: trade, coastal life and architectural history sit side by side, rather than reducing Flekkefjord to a single historical period.

The old Hollenderbyen is itself a place of interest. Its colourful murals tell stories about the sea, the town and the people who live there. If you are interested in the connection between local history and the present, you will find a different perspective here than in the technical history of the Flekkefjord Railway: the railway represents transport history, while the murals reflect the town’s life and stories. The two themes offer different highlights for a stay, without needing to be combined into a single itinerary.

Grønnes and more to discover
