Skaland: Husfjellet, fjord tours and special experiences
Accommodation in Skaland
Skaland offers several different ways to shape your stay: a hike on Husfjellet, RIB fjord expeditions from Skaland and a bookable aurora experience in Hamn. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can first consider which experiences you want to define your trip and how you would like to plan your journey and days on site. The options range from a walking tour to a trip on the fjord; there are also specific points of reference for travelling by car.
Getting to Skaland
The drive from Finnsnes to Skaland follows the R86 towards Gryllefjord and then road 861. The journey is stated to take one hour. Skaland also has fast-charging stations for electric vehicles. If you are travelling by electric car, you can factor this option into your travel plans. This also lets you link your choice of accommodation to the question of how you would like to travel to Skaland.
Hiking up Husfjellet
The hike up Husfjellet starts just outside the Skagi Hotel. It reaches an elevation of 635 metres and includes the summit point of Sommardalen. Hikers pass two shelters at Myran. You can refill your water bottle in a nearby river. These specific stopping points give the hike its own structure: the trail climbs to the summit point and passes the shelters at Myran along the way. If hiking is to be an important part of your stay, the starting point at the Skagi Hotel is a useful reference when considering your stay in Skaland.
RIB fjord expeditions from Skaland
Basecamp Senja offers three-hour RIB fjord expeditions in Bergsfjorden; the tours start in Skaland. The departure point is at the changing room beside the Joker supermarket. The expedition passes historical and cultural sites. There are also opportunities to spot black guillemots, puffins, white-tailed eagles and seals. This tour is therefore quite different from the hike up Husfjellet: it takes you through the fjord by RIB and combines the ride with insights into historical and cultural sites and the opportunity to observe wildlife.
An aurora experience in Hamn
You can book an aurora experience at Aurora Panorama Fyrløkta in Hamn. It includes exclusive access to a heated lighthouse, hot drinks and reindeer hides to sit on outdoors. If you would like to include this special experience in your holiday plans, you can consider it as a separate activity alongside the options from Skaland. The lighthouse, hot drinks and outdoor seating are part of the experience described; an aurora sighting is not guaranteed.
Accommodation and nearby places
Skaland Camping offers pitches for motorhomes, caravans and tents. From the campsite, a grocery store, a pub and a restaurant are within a short walk. This is a useful point of reference when choosing where to stay, especially for travellers with their own camping equipment. If you are planning a family trip, you can weigh up the different activities according to which experiences interest your fellow travellers most: the hike and its stops along the way, the fjord expedition with opportunities to observe wildlife, or the bookable experience in Hamn.
