Krokstadøra
Accommodation in Krokstadøra
Krokstadøra lies at the innermost end of the Snillfjord, where the Bergselva flows into it. The village combines its fjord setting with nature experiences, active pursuits and distinctive traces of its local history. When choosing where to stay, you can consider whether you mainly want to experience the landscape and get active, or also explore the culture in the centre.
Fjord Landscape and Trails
A detour to Åhammaran offers views of Krokstadøra and the Snillfjord. The circular route follows gravel paths; the ground may be wet in places near the summit. This is a practical detail to bear in mind when planning your day: in addition to firm gravel, you will encounter damp sections along the way. If you enjoy taking in the landscape from a viewpoint, this offers a different kind of nature experience from the activities in the village.
The sea, forest and mountains are also close to the Oppvekstsenter in Krokstadøra, offering opportunities to experience nature. This variety of landscapes gives your trip a different focus from a day of motocross, park activities or local history. Which of these appeals to you most can therefore help shape the kind of stay you are looking for.
Activities for Different Interests
Completed in 2022, Krokstadøra Activity Park features an in-ground trampoline, a running track, benches, lighting and a gapahuk shelter. The park is equipped for both exercise and taking a seat or sheltering. For families looking for things to do in the village, the trampoline and running track are concrete options; the benches and shelter add places to take a break.
If you are interested in motocross, you can visit the Snillfjord Motorklubb motocross track. The track is about 900 metres long and 5 to 8 metres wide, and has lighting throughout. The Motorklubb welcomes visitors to its track in Krokstadøra. For the Krokstadvarden–Brevikvarden route, parking is available at Skogly ungdomshus by the Motorklubb in Krokstadøra.
At Moa Besøksgård, you can get close to many different animals and birds. Groups such as kindergartens, seniors and school classes are welcome by prior arrangement. If you want to focus your trip on nature and animals, a visit here offers a different emphasis from the sporting activities. Groups should arrange their visit in advance.
Church, Art and Local History
Snillfjord kirke is located in Krokstadøra, near county road 714. Built in 1899, the church is a wooden long church with 250 seats. Its design, materials and size give it a distinct place in local history. For travellers interested in architecture and culture, it adds a historical dimension to the nature and leisure activities.
A statue of Martin Stokken, depicted as a running shepherd boy, stands in the centre. Martin Stokken is known as a Norwegian competitor at two Summer and two Winter Olympic Games. The centre is designated a Tusenårssted, or Millennium Site. It is also home to a work of art by Åse Liv Hauan symbolising 10,000 years of settlement. The statue, designation and artwork offer different ways to connect with the area's history and identity.
