Discover Fevåg: Moorland, Culture and Local Events

Fevåg combines a distinctive moorland landscape with traces of history and events that offer different ways to experience the area. The large Djupskarmoen bog slopes gently down towards the sea. Other highlights include the Bakstein cultural heritage trail, a fish festival featuring a run and cycle race, and nearby places to visit. When choosing a destination, you can decide whether to focus primarily on the landscape, historical sites or a weekend of events.

Moorland and views

Djupskarmoen is a large bog in Fevåg; its gentle slope towards the sea is one of the area’s distinctive landscape features. If you like to include a variety of experiences in your travel plans, you can make this bog a focus of your visit and also take in the view from Brettingsfjellet. The summit offers a good view over the Trondheimsfjord and the shipping route. Brettingsfjellet lies at Fevågskardet, between Hasselvika and Fevåg. The bog and the viewpoint therefore offer two distinct ways to shape your stay in Fevåg and the surrounding area.

The hike to Frengsheia nearby also provides a specific option for planning: it goes via Kvernbekken and Moltdalsløfta to the summit, is about 10 km in total and reaches an elevation of 350 m. This information can help you plan the hike as a separate activity rather than treating it as a short walk. For a different activity, the Fevåg/Hasselvika frisbee park can be reached from the harbour by an approximately 7 km round trip via Fevågskardet. The Frengsheia hike and the route to the frisbee park thus differ both in their destinations and in their stated distances.

Cultural heritage in Bakstein and Fevåg

The Bakstein cultural heritage trail starts at the youth centre in Fevåg. Several signs there provide information about finds from the Stone Age and Iron Age. The trail brings together archaeological information and visible traces of history: it also passes the concrete barge “Crete Joist”, which ran aground there in 1943. If you are interested in history, you can choose these sites as a focus of your stay.

Another cultural monument is the Finnkarihaugen standing stone in Fevåg/Bakstein. It is automatically protected as an individual cultural monument. The Serbertrappa is also located near Fevåg, at Brettingen. Prisoners of war built it during the Second World War. These places represent different historical connections: the cultural heritage trail provides information about prehistoric finds and leads to the concrete barge, while Finnkarihaugen and the Serbertrappa are separate monuments or historic structures.

Fish festival, run and cycle race

The annual fish festival organised by Fevåg Båtforening is usually held on the last Saturday in July. If you want to plan your trip around a local event, this usual date is a useful guide. The fish festival regularly includes Fevågrittet, a cycle race, and Fevågløpet, a run. These two sporting events complement the festival in different ways. You can therefore consider whether to visit Fevåg for the festival itself, for one of the races or independently of them; bear in mind that the festival date is “usually” the last Saturday in July.
