The Vang burial ground contains more than 900 large and small burial mounds and stone heaps. Oppdalsmuseet is a 10-minute walk from the centre of Oppdal. Oppdal Church and its surroundings also tell stories of different eras. The present church was built around 1650 and consecrated by Bishop Erik Bredal on 12 March 1651. The baptistery contains stave construction dating from the 12th century, decorated with painted apostles. Raulåna stands beside the church at Vang and was built in 1675. Cross-country trails, ski slopes and routes through Dovrefjell
Oppdal offers several options for winter sports. Oppdal Ski Centre extends across four mountains and has 13 ski lifts and 35 slopes. Vangslia has a children’s slope, two chairlifts, two drag lifts and eleven runs. Cross-country trails are also part of the offering beyond the ski slopes: Oppdal Ski Stadium has 4 kilometres of groomed trails, including a lit route. The trail network at Grøtsetra Ski Arena connects to Skaret, Nerskogen, Gjevilvassdalen and the centre of Oppdal. Grøtsetra Ski Arena also has a warming hut with a café and toilets. Its toboggan run is a popular meeting place for many families in late winter.
Other routes cover a range of distances. In the Stølen and Fagerhaug area, there are routes starting from Stølen that are 9 and 11.5 kilometres long. For longer outings, consider the pilgrimage route: its 70 kilometres through Oppdal take you through natural and cultural landscapes and historic surroundings. At 1,985 metres, Storskrymten is the highest mountain in Oppdal; the hike to the summit covers 30 kilometres there and back, with 1,400 metres of elevation gain.
