Flatraket: Hiking trails through Flatraksdalen and small beaches
Accommodation in Flatraket
Flatraket lies at the end of Flatraksdalen. The valley trail makes the surroundings particularly easy to explore on foot: alongside the gravel fitness trail, there are many well-marked mountain hiking trails around the valley. You can choose a route in the valley or combine a hike with one of the mountain destinations. The different routes give your trip planning a clear focus without limiting you to just one way of getting around.
The valley trail: circular route or out-and-back
Flatraket IL opened the circular trail around Flatraksdalen in autumn 2020. The entire trail was resurfaced with gravel in 2024 and 2025. You can walk it as a circular route in either direction, or go out and back along the same path. This means you can plan the valley trail either as a complete loop or as a route with a return journey.
There is a dedicated car park for the trail at Fosselida, signposted from the main road. This can be a useful guide when driving to the starting point. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Flatraket, you can consider the valley trail as one possible focus for your stay.
From the forest road to the path at Synnevahornet
The hike to Synnevahornet first follows a forest road through Flatraksdalen to Torvhusa, where the route changes to a trail. You cross the river in the middle of the valley on a small footbridge. The path then continues through Hestedalen, where an old summer farm with two restored “sel” buildings is located. The forest road, bridge, trail and summer farm give this hike a variety of sections and a distinctive stopping point.
The route to Alskartinden also begins on the fitness trail in Flatraksdalen. At the inner end of the valley, it branches off from the fitness trail; Alskartinden offers views of Flatraksdalen. If you would like to explore a different direction, you can branch off towards Gangeskaregga at the inner end of the trail through Flatraksdalen. From Håkonshallen, a path continues towards Lynghaughornet.
For a longer outing, a circular hike goes via Håkonshallen, Namneberget, Synnevahornet and Selet before descending again through Flatraksdalen. There are several options: you can choose the gravel valley trail, take a detour to a mountain destination, or consider the longer loop with several named points. You can choose based on the route you want, without needing to assume a particular walking time or difficulty level.
Valley and sea around Flatraket
One of the area’s natural features is Esterbekken, a spring that has never dried up. Together with the marked mountain hiking trails and the gravel fitness trail, the valley offers walks to various destinations along different routes.
Nearby Flatraket has several small beaches for swimming. The harbour has a breakwater and a guest dock for visitors arriving by boat. Flatraket also offers good opportunities for boating and recreational sea fishing. The waters just outside the village can be rough in places. If you would like to include both hikes and water-based activities in your holiday rental search, this combination is a good reason to consider the valley and village together.
