Førde offers an unusual contrast: the Førdefestivalen, a major festival of acoustic folk and world music, takes centre stage, while hikes and viewpoints draw your gaze up to the mountains. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Førde, you can consider whether your trip will focus mainly on culture, mountain trails or both.

Folk and World Music at Førdehuset

The Førdefestivalen is Scandinavia’s largest festival of acoustic folk and world music. Førdehuset is at the heart of the festival and has several concert halls. There is also a ticket office, located in the exhibition hall. This combination of concert halls and exhibition space makes Førdehuset a practical place to visit if you are interested in the city’s music and culture during your trip.

The venue is centrally located in Førde, just a few minutes’ walk from the bus station.

Viewpoints and Trails at Hafstadfjellet

For a different focus on your trip, look from the city up towards Hafstadfjellet. Vidsyn is a modern viewpoint on the trail from Sentrum Sør up the mountain. Its address is Lysthaugen 2A in Førde. This makes the viewpoint a distinct landmark for a trip focused on mountain scenery and views. For orientation, the two landmarks differ: Vidsyn is on the trail from Sentrum Sør, while Hafstadkleiva begins near the town hall.

Another option described here is the hike via Hafstadkleiva. It starts in central Førde, at the intersection of Fjellvegen (E39) and Langebruvegen, near the town hall. The trail climbs over 180 steps to Hafstadfjellet, at an altitude of 706 metres; from there, you can enjoy panoramic views over Førde.

Another viewpoint is the day-trip cabin Gyttakvia. It sits at an altitude of about 250 metres above the residential area of Vieåsen, east of Førde, and offers views of the city. Gyttakvia is located roughly one-third of the way along the trail to the viewpoint on Viafjellet. These details describe a separate viewpoint and a different route from the hike via Hafstadkleiva to Hafstadfjellet; keep the destinations distinct when planning your trip.

Culture in Inner Sunnfjord

The Sunnfjord Museum may also appeal to travellers interested in culture. It showcases the cultural heritage and everyday life of the villages in inner Sunnfjord, and is located on the E39 between Førde and Jølster. Alongside the festival and mountain trails, it offers another perspective on the life and culture of the region’s villages.

A holiday apartment in Førde is therefore a suitable option if you want to choose the city as a base for the cultural or outdoor experiences you prefer.
